2015 Rendezvous

2015 VAC Rendezvous
Friday June 19 to Monday June 22, 2015
Durango, CO

This is a vintage rally for all VAC members, even if you are not going onto the Farmington International Rally.  It's being held over the weekend to allow working people and young families to attend.  We understand that many cannot go onto the Farmington International Rally due to its expense and time commitment.  With more emphasis on a national vintage gathering at the VAC Rendezvous, it's a good opportunity for all VAC members to come together over the weekend at a low cost rally.

Campground arrangements are being finalized, and we will let everyone know the location in Durango as soon as it's set and confirmed.  It's expected that campsite fees with be about $37 to $44 per night for full hookups.  There will be dry camping sites available at a lower cost.

Rally fee will be $20 per adult.  Kids are free!

There will be plenty of free time to visit with others and see the local area.  We will get together each morning for a technical or restoration seminar, and leave much of the day open for you to relax or tour the local area.  We'll get together later in the day to share food at a meal, and gather around a campfire in the evening.

Here's the plan so far:
Thursday June 18 - early arrivals, no rally events planned for this day

Friday June 19 - arrivals and check-in to the campground
5:00 pm - Welcome meet and greet happy hour, bring an appetizer to share
Dinner on your own or with friends

Saturday June 20 and Sunday June 21 - each day will have a similar schedule
9:00 am - Technical or Restoration Seminar
Day open to visit the area on your own or with friends
6:00 pm - Potluck supper with main BBQ provided, bring an side dish or dessert to share

Monday June 22
Break camp, wish everyone well, and safe travels!
Those going onto the Farmington International Rally will head out and rendezvous near the rally site.

The VAC Rendezvous - Little Airstreams on the Prairie

Plans are underway for the VAC to circle the Airstreams in DeSmet, South Dakota, on the grounds of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead. Yes, this is the same Laura Ingalls who wrote the Little House on the Prairie and the Little House book series. The Homestead has fun for the whole family with tours of the grounds, where Laura was inspired to write her books, covered wagon rides, an 1880’s school session, Ma’s Little House, ponies and horses, a Prairie Exhibit and other pioneering activities, and a well-stocked gift shop. It is a beautiful prairie landscape, where the view hasn’t changed much since Ingalls experienced it first hand. This is a themed gathering. Our goal is to become the “Little Airstreams on the Prairie” for one evening. As part of the festivities, we will be encouraging participants to dress in period costume for the day, evening, or how about just a bonnet or western hat!

We are also working on a special surprise in the evening for those attending. This will be an overnight stop before we caravan to the International Rally grounds in Huron, South Dakota in the grandest fashion we can present—a caravan of silver wagons heading to the Vintage Parking area. Limited space will be available for the rendezvous and caravan, so save the dates and plan on making your reservations early. A sign-up form will be posted, after the first of the year on the website. This should prove to be a very fitting and enjoyable end to the Wagon Wheel Caravan, and hopefully a truly memorable and historic VAC Rendezvous. Stay tuned to the website for more information, too. All attendees must be registered for the International Rally—Go to wbcci.org for more information.
