Vintage Spring in the California Gold Country
Region 12 VAC had a small, but fun, outing for our spring rally at Angels Camp RV Resort in Angels Camp, California. Many of you have heard of this area in the Gold County of California through Mark Twain who lived here for a time and wrote his short story “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” in 1867, his first literary success. We have made several trips to this park that is set in the beautiful Sierra Foothills amidst giant oak trees. Seven rigs attended, representing Southern & Northern California, and Nevada and Vintage Airstream style from the 60’s to the 80’s.
We gathered every morning for coffee and breakfast goodies provided by Ingall Bull’s and Mike Kirby, your rally hosts. We have really enjoyed this ritual because it allows the group to coalesce in the morning and connect with one another and review the day’s activities. Thursday, our arrival day, found us at Mike’s Pizza, an Angels Camp institution, Enjoying to good pizza and reconnecting with old friends. This was followed by wine tasing and lunch at Hovey Winery in the cute little gold rush town of Murphy’s on Friday afternoon. Saturday’s potluck saw a collection of many tasty dishes and a pleasant evening of food and fellowship in the club room at the park. Of coarse it wouldn’t be a vintage rally without the requisite rains on Saturday night to help us test our efforts to eradicate leaks and continue to track down new ones.
We all bid farewell to one another after our coffee and breakfast on Sunday morning. Although it can be hard to say goodbye we all considered this outing a success and we are now turning our sights toward the next VAC Region 12 rally in October 2026.
This rally will be on October 24-28, 2026 at the Atlatl Campground in Valley of Fire Nevada State Park just outside Las Vegas, known for its red rock formations and beauty. This rally directly precedes the Region 12 annual rally at the Oasis in Las Vegas and many of us will caravan to the Region 12 rally.
